The Healthy Facts

What’s Your Step?

Besides making your life healthier, answering the What’s Your Step? question and creating healthy steps will reduce your risks for more serious issues down the road.

Obesity is common, serious and costly.

  • Obesity-related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer, and are some of the leading causes of preventable death.1
  • Almost 65% of Marion County adults are overweight or obese.2
  • Close to 16% of our middle and high school students are overweight and nearly 14% are considered obese.2
  • We want to stop these facts before they become too tough to turn around.

How do you reach a healthy weight?

When it comes to weight loss, fad diets that promise fast results are everywhere. But these diets limit your nutrition, can be unhealthy, and tend to fail in the long run.

The key to achieving and maintaining a healthy weight is about a lifestyle that includes healthy eating, regular physical activity, and balancing the number of calories you consume with the number of calories your body uses. Staying in control of your weight contributes to good health now and as you age.
